Dental Implants in Gourock: What the Process Involves and Why Dentistry on the Clyde Is the Right Place to Start

Dental implants are the most permanent and natural-feeling solution available for replacing a missing tooth, and for patients who are suitable they are almost always the first recommendation. But the process is more involved than most people expect, and the quality of the result depends enormously on the skill and experience of the team delivering it.

Dentistry on the Clyde is based on Kempock Street in Gourock and has earned a reputation as one of the most trusted dental practices in Inverclyde. With a 5.0 rating across 616 Google reviews and award recognition in 2025 for Best Practice, Team of the Year, Treatment of Nervous Patients, and Patient Care, the standard of care here is reflected consistently in what patients say about their experience.

Why Choose Dentistry on the Clyde for Dental Implants in Gourock?

Choosing the right provider for implant treatment is one of the most significant dental decisions you will make. Experience, technology, and the quality of care throughout the process all affect the outcome.

Implant treatment at Dentistry on the Clyde is led by Dr Morven McCauley, who specialises in implantology and has built a remarkable track record with both single tooth and complex full arch cases. The practice uses laser-assisted implant techniques and backs every implant with a lifetime warranty. Pain-free treatment is a written guarantee: if you feel pain during any private procedure, your treatment visit is free.

Patient reviews of Morven and the implant team are consistently detailed and specific. One patient who completed a full upper arch fitted onto six implants wrote: “I instinctively felt a very reassuring confidence from Morven. I was very sure I was in the presence of dentistry excellence. Certainly I was not mistaken. All my treatment was completely pain free and I looked forward to each visit.” Another, who completed two implants, wrote: “Every visit Morven would explain what was happening and was always reassuring and calming. The treatment was totally pain free and I am so happy with the end result.”

A third patient who had suffered years of dental anxiety described the experience simply: “Morven has cured my lifelong phobia of going to the dentist with patience, care and understanding.”

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed surgically into the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Over several months, the bone grows around and fuses with the post in a process called osseointegration. Once that bond is confirmed, a custom-made crown is attached on top.

The result is a replacement tooth anchored directly into the jaw. It does not move, does not rely on neighbouring teeth for support, and requires no special maintenance beyond normal brushing and flossing. Most patients describe the finished result as completely indistinguishable from their natural teeth.

Why Implants Are the Gold Standard for Missing Teeth

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone at that site begins to lose density. A natural root transmits biting forces into the bone every time you eat, and without that stimulation the bone slowly resorbs. Over time this affects the shape of the jaw, the stability of neighbouring teeth, and in cases of multiple missing teeth, the appearance of the face.

Dentures and bridges replace the visible tooth but do nothing to prevent this bone loss. An implant is the only tooth replacement that replicates the function of a root, stimulating the bone and maintaining the structure that would otherwise be lost.

Beyond bone preservation, implants offer a level of stability and natural function that other restorations cannot match. With proper care, they are designed to last a lifetime.

Who Is Suitable for Dental Implants in Gourock?

Most healthy adults who are missing one or more teeth are potentially suitable for implants. The key requirements are sufficient bone volume at the implant site, healthy gums, and good general health to support healing after a minor surgical procedure.

Patients who have had a missing tooth for some time may have experienced bone loss at the site. In many cases this can be addressed with bone grafting before or at the time of implant placement.

Active gum disease needs to be treated and stable before an implant is placed. Uncontrolled gum disease around an implant is one of the main causes of failure, so this is always addressed first.

Smoking increases implant failure rates and your dentist will discuss this honestly with you at your consultation. Medical conditions that affect healing require individual assessment.

The only reliable way to know whether implants are right for your situation is a thorough clinical assessment. That process begins with a complimentary consultation with a Smile Advisor at Dentistry on the Clyde, who will talk you through your options with no commitment and no pressure.

The Dental Implant Process at Dentistry on the Clyde

Your Complimentary Consultation

Your first step is a complimentary consultation with a Smile Advisor at Dentistry on the Clyde. This is a conversation, not a clinical appointment. It covers your concerns, your goals, and the options available, with full cost information provided before any clinical assessment takes place. Patients consistently describe the consultation experience as unhurried, informative, and completely free of pressure.

Clinical Assessment and Planning

Morven McCauley will carry out a full examination including digital X-rays and 3D imaging to assess bone volume and anatomy at the implant site. A detailed treatment plan is built from this assessment covering every stage, the full timeline, and a complete written breakdown of costs before anything moves forward.

Any Preparatory Treatment

If the tooth is still present it is extracted first. If bone grafting is needed it takes place at this stage and is given time to heal before implant placement. Not every patient requires preparatory work, but when it is needed it is the foundation for a lasting result.

Laser-Assisted Implant Placement

Dentistry on the Clyde uses laser-assisted implant techniques for a more precise and minimally invasive placement. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic using the practice’s five-step pain-free protocol: numbing gel applied first, warmed anaesthetic, the shortest and finest needles, a slow injection rate, and a computer-assisted delivery system. Dental nurse Yvonne supports Morven McCauley through the procedure and patients are checked in with throughout.

Healing and Osseointegration

The implant is left to fuse with the bone over three to six months. Check-up appointments monitor progress during this period but there is no active treatment. A temporary restoration keeps the gap closed while healing takes place.

Your Crown

Once osseointegration is confirmed, a digital scan or impressions are taken to fabricate your custom crown. The crown is matched to the colour, shape, and size of your surrounding teeth. When it is fitted, the implant is complete and fully functional.

Laser-Assisted Implants With a Lifetime Warranty

Dentistry on the Clyde offers laser-assisted dental implants backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the practice’s confidence in both the techniques used and the outcomes achieved. One patient who completed a full upper implant arch described the result simply: “I am absolutely delighted with my new implants and only wish I had visited the practice sooner. Without doubt I would highly recommend Dentistry on the Clyde.”

Full Mouth Dental Implants in Gourock

For patients who are missing multiple teeth or who require a full arch restoration, Dentistry on the Clyde offers comprehensive full mouth implant solutions including implant-supported dentures and same-day teeth on implants.

Morven McCauley has extensive experience with full arch cases and the reviews from patients who have completed this treatment are among the most detailed on the site. A full assessment and treatment plan will give you a clear picture of what is involved and what the cost looks like before any decisions are made.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

With proper care, the implant post is designed to last a lifetime. The crown may need replacing after 15 to 20 years depending on wear, but the implant itself rarely requires intervention once it has successfully integrated.

Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups are the main requirements for long-term success. The team at Dentistry on the Clyde supports patients in maintaining the health of both their implants and their natural teeth at every routine appointment.

Dental Implant Costs and Finance Options in Gourock

The cost of a dental implant depends on how many are being placed, whether preparatory work is needed, and the type of crown used. A complete written breakdown of costs is provided before any commitment is made. This is one of the practice’s five written promises to every patient.

Interest-free finance options are available to help spread the investment, and these are discussed at your complimentary consultation so you have a clear picture of your monthly commitment before agreeing to anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who carries out dental implants at Dentistry on the Clyde in Gourock?

Implant treatment is led by Morven McCauley, who specialises in implantology at Dentistry on the Clyde. Morven McCauley has an extensive track record in both single tooth and complex full arch implant cases and is recognised through multiple practice awards including Treatment of Nervous Patients and Patient Care. Dental nurse Yvonne supports the implant team throughout treatment.

Are dental implants painful in Gourock?

Dentistry on the Clyde guarantees pain-free treatment backed by a money-back promise. Implant placement is carried out using a five-step pain-free protocol and laser-assisted techniques. Post-procedure discomfort is typically mild. As one patient put it: “Morven has cured my lifelong phobia of going to the dentist with patience, care and understanding. You do not feel a thing.”

How long does the dental implant process take in Gourock?

From consultation to fitted crown, most single-tooth cases take between six and twelve months. The majority of that time is the osseointegration phase rather than active appointments. Complex full arch cases take longer, and we will give you a realistic timeline at your consultation based on your specific situation.

Can I get dental implants if I have had a missing tooth for several years?

In most cases yes, though bone loss at the site may mean grafting is needed before placement. Your dentist will assess bone volume with imaging at your consultation and advise clearly on what is involved. Acting sooner is always simpler, but patients who have had a gap for years are frequently still suitable for treatment.

Does Dentistry on the Clyde offer finance for dental implants?

Yes. Interest-free and other finance options are available to help spread the cost of implant treatment. Finance is discussed at your complimentary consultation so you know your full monthly commitment before agreeing to anything.

Are dental implants available on the NHS in Gourock?

NHS provision for dental implants is very limited and typically restricted to specific clinical criteria. In most cases implants are provided privately. Dentistry on the Clyde offers interest-free finance options to help make the investment manageable.

What happens if I do not replace a missing tooth?

Leaving a gap leads to gradual bone loss at the site, drifting of neighbouring teeth, and changes to your bite over time. These effects compound and make future treatment more complex. Replacing a missing tooth promptly is considerably simpler and more cost-effective than addressing the secondary problems that develop if the gap is left untreated.

Stuart WilsonDentistry on the Clyde – Review 20.2.24Now in my 70th year and with my top teeth failing I feared I was heading for the dreaded full denture. Thankfully I was very fortunate to be referred to Dentistry on the Clyde. There I met with my wonderful Smile Advisor, Chloe who explored my options with me.Subsequently I met with Dr Morven McCauley who specialises in implantology. Instinctively I felt a very reassuring confidence from Morven, I was very sure I was now in the presence of dentistry excellence. Certainly I was not mistaken and thanks to Morven and her team I now have a wonderful new ceramic upper arch fitted onto six implants. All the staff I met at the practice were brilliant, Smile advisor, Chloe, Dental Nurse, Yvonne, Hygienist, Thurga and all the reception staff.Of course, leading this great team is the very wonderful Dr Morven McCauley, whom in my humble opinion is simply the very best dentist I have ever met, I truly believe she is a real ‘Superstar’ in the world of dentistry. Had an amazing experience with nail at dentistry on the Clyde. I came in with teeth that to say the least I was ashamed of showing to anyone. Sat down with nail and came up with a plan to fix that. Only after a few sessions he gave me a smile that I was amazed to look at in the mirror and could show people. He literally gave me my smile back and gave me so much confidence which before gave me a lot of insecurity. Then we finished the remaining sessions and now I am over the moon with the work done.. can’t recommend nial enough every treatment was pain free he was very informative of the work he was carrying out he kept me updated with everything which was very reassuring

10/10 experience with Nial! I will continue to shout about it from the rooftops.I used to be quite scared of the dentist but Nial put me completely at ease, discussed options, described treatments and answered any questions I had along the way. Nial would also let me put headphones on to listen to music to help drown out the sound of drilling etc which is what the majority of my fear was from… and he never once judged me for my eclectic music requests! 😝I had to have a lot of work done before we moved on to my ‘ABC’ (alignment, bleach and composite bonding) treatment and every step of the way was pain free. I am so beyond thrilled with the results and I would recommend him to everyone. A big shout out to Christina too who was with me through the majority of my treatment assisting Nial.Buzzing with my new smile! 🫶🏻🥰✨

I have been with Dentistry on the Clyde for just over a year. Morven has cured my lifelong phobia of going to the dentist with patience, care and understanding. They say they offer pain free dentistry. At first I did not believe it at all due to many terrible experiences with another dentist practice. But take it from someone who has avoided the dentist for years, you do not feel a thing! If only all dentists used the same way of injecting anaesthetic, no one would be afraid of the dentist again! Thank you Morven for helping me to finally get over my fears. You are one in a million !

I attended the practice with a problem I was fairly adament was a wisdom tooth issue. After speaking to Ross, he quickly understood the issue to be linked to outside factors, such as stress. He outlined the options I had and provided some exercises to carry out to relax my facial muscle to provide initial relief. Within two weeks, all pain was gone. It was an excellent consultation that shows the wider knowledge and expertise the practice brings outside usual dentistry procedures

Suffering many years of dental problems I made an appointment at Dentistry on the Clyde. After an initial consultation I was given three options. I had a massive abscess on an upper molar .. got an appointment almost immediately. Nasty tooth was extracted by Morven who fought the mischievous molar for an hour. Once out, the relief was instant.
