What Is Involved With Tooth Whitening?

The technique involves taking impressions of your teeth and getting laboratory made custom bleaching trays. Tooth whitening gel is then applied to the trays which are fitted to the teeth.

The trays hold the gel on the teeth and with time the teeth lighten. The more often you apply the gel the lighter the teeth will go. 

What Causes Tooth Discolouration?

There are many causes including ageing and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, teas, tobacco, red wine etc. During tooth formation consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discolouration.

Is Tooth Whitening Safe?

Yes, when monitored professionally and the instructions are followed there will be no damage to teeth, enamel or gums.

How Long Will It Take?

Generally the effects can be seen within one week for the in-office technique and in about one month for the home bleaching technique. Some stains, like those caused by antibiotics, may require a prolonged course of treatment.

How Long Will It Last?

This depends on your lifestyle (tea, coffee, red wine etc.) but generally the effects should last up to two years. We advise patients to keep their bleaching trays and additional tubes of the tooth whitening can be purchased for a ‘top-up’ as required.

Will It Affect My Fillings Or Crowns?

No, there will be no colour change to existing fillings (silver or white), crowns, veneers, inlays, bridgework etc. Some restorations may need to be replaced if they do not match the new colour of your teeth and we will do our best to advise which ones these may be, but the final decision can only be assessed once the tooth whitening has been completed.

Was seen promptly today at Dentistry on the Clyde. The dentist was very polite & listened to everything I had to say. He did his best to fix the problem I have with new dentures. He advised me to only wear when eating, keep them out all other times, as gums are sore, this will give gums time to heal.If still having problems, come back & he would his best to sort them.

I was feeling very nervous before my appointment as I've never had root canal treatment before ...Morven and her assistant Yvonne made it completely painless and when it was done I wondered what I was soo worried about..(think it's an age thing) 🤔 .I've had a lot of treatment including implants ..the service is brilliant from the receptionist to the hygienist to Morven and Yvonne .I would highly recommend !!!!!!

My over all experience here was a pleasant one. Andrew the dentist was an absolute diamond. He made me feel at ease and listened to me and what I had been through with previous dentist. He could see i was anxious and shaking with fear. But with a calming manner he made me feel at ease. He explained everything what he was going to do and was honest with me and told me what was wrong with my mouth and how it could be sorted. Donna the dental nurse was also amazing, she very professional and was such a lovely person to talk to. Andrew, went above and behond to try and get me the help I needed as I was needing to see a specific orthodontist surgeon to treat my problem. When I phoned the practice firstly, I was greeted my Sarah and she was amazing at her job. All the members who i have mentioned are amazing and are a credit to your practice.

I phoned this morning at 9.00 and was given an appointment with Ross at 09.30.I had never met Ross before. I found him friendly, reassuring and very confident that he could address my problem.He was happy to explain his findings and plan of action.There was no hurry, and at the end of the procedure he was happy to answer any questions.I am on the dental plan and i have alwaysbeen given an appointment within a very short space of time if i experience any difficulties.I also like the fact that you are recognised as a patient at this clinic. My appointment for a filling, due to receding gums wasn't due until June. But, the nerve pain I was experiencing was incredible, and I can take alot of pain. This was on a different level. I couldn't eat properly nor brush my teeth without the pain radiating all through my mouth and jaws. However, I phoned on the Friday and got an appointment on the Saturday. Morven and her assistant were fantastic. I got a white filling, filling in an area the receding gum. It was pain-free. Absolutely brilliant. Now I can eat without pain, and most importantly, brush my teeth!

I have to be brutally honest. I have one major regret with Dr Morven McCauley and Dentistry on the Clyde. My regret is that I didn’t I bite the bullet sooner and just go ahead and pay the price and solve my teething problems. Morven’s implants have changed my life. Thankfully I was very fortunate to be referred to Dentistry on the Clyde.There I met with my wonderful Smile Advisor, Chloe who explored my options with me.Subsequently I met with Dr Morven McCauley who specialises in implantology. Instinctively I felt a very reassuring confidence from Morven, I was very sure I was now in the presence of dentistry excellence.
