Choosing a Dentist in Gourock: What Patient Focused Care Should Look Like

Choosing a Dentist in Gourock: What Patient-Focused Care Should Look Like

Choosing a dentist is about more than finding a practice that is close to home. We believe the way you are welcomed, listened to and cared for can make a real difference to your experience at the dentist.

If you are looking for a dentist in Gourock, you may be thinking about more than just the treatments available. You might want a dental team that takes the time to understand your concerns, explains things clearly and helps you feel comfortable throughout your care.

At Dentistry On The Clyde, we believe patient-focused dentistry starts with understanding the person sitting in the dental chair.

Patient-focused dentistry starts with listening

Everyone’s experience of dentistry is different. You may have a particular dental problem that needs attention, concerns about treatment or a previous experience that has made you nervous about visiting the dentist.

We want you to feel comfortable talking to us about those concerns.

During your appointment, you can explain what is worrying you in your own words. You do not need to know dental terminology or have all the answers. Our role is to listen, understand what matters to you and explain things in a way that is easy to follow.

We also encourage our patients to ask questions. If there is something you are unsure about, we would much rather you ask than leave an appointment feeling uncertain.

Clear explanations help you make informed decisions

We believe you should understand your treatment before deciding whether to go ahead.

If we recommend treatment, we will explain what we have found, why treatment may be appropriate and what the proposed treatment involves. We provide written treatment plans and cost information before treatment begins.

We know that having a clear understanding of your options can make dental decisions feel much easier. Our aim is to give you the information you need so that you can make an informed decision about your own dental care.

There should never be any need to feel rushed into making a decision.

We understand that some patients feel nervous about dentistry

For some people, visiting the dentist is straightforward. For others, even making an appointment can feel like a big step.

If you are nervous about dentistry, please tell us. You are not alone, and there is no need to feel embarrassed about being anxious.

We have a dedicated approach for nervous patients and use a range of techniques to help make treatment more comfortable. For patients who need additional support, we also offer sedation dentistry.

If fear of the dentist has caused you to put off appointments in the past, talking to us about your concerns before treatment can be a good place to start.

You can read more about how we support nervous patients on our Nervous Patients page.

We take comfort and pain management seriously

One of the most common concerns we hear from patients is whether treatment will hurt.

We understand why this can be a worry, particularly if you have had an uncomfortable dental experience in the past. We use a number of techniques designed to make treatment as comfortable as possible, including topical numbing gel, warmed local anaesthetic, slow injection and a computer-based delivery system.

Of course, every patient and every procedure is different. Our aim is to talk to you about your comfort before treatment begins and make sure you feel able to tell us if you are uncomfortable at any point.

You should feel comfortable asking questions

Good communication is an important part of the relationship between a patient and their dental team.

We want our patients to feel that they have time to ask questions and understand what is happening. Whether you are attending for a routine examination or discussing more complex treatment, we are happy to explain things and talk through your concerns.

Our team includes dentists, dental therapists, hygienists, nurses and support staff, allowing us to provide different aspects of dental care within the practice.

You can find out more about our team on our [Meet The Team] page.

Continuity can help you feel more comfortable

Building a relationship with your dental team can make visits easier, particularly if you are nervous or need treatment over a number of appointments.

Seeing familiar faces and getting to know the people caring for you can help you feel more at ease over time. We want our patients to feel that they know who they are talking to and that their concerns are being listened to.

Regular dental visits can also help us understand your individual needs and provide continuity as your dental care develops.

Practical access matters too

Finding the right Gourock dentist also means finding a practice that works for you in practical terms.

Our practice is located at:

What our patients say

Reviews can provide an insight into how other people have experienced a dental practice, although we recognise that every patient’s experience is individual.

One of our patients, Stephen, shared:

“Made me feel very relaxed, the treatment was pain free and I walked out feeling a lot more comfortable about potential treatment in the future.”

We are particularly pleased when patients tell us that they feel more comfortable about visiting the dentist after their appointment. For us, that is an important part of patient-focused care.

Finding the right dentist for you

There is no single feature that makes a dental practice right for everyone.

For some people, location and appointment availability will be most important. For others, it may be having a dental team that understands nervous patients, provides clear information about treatment or takes the time to answer questions.

If you are looking for a dentist in Gourock, we would be happy to talk to you about your needs and answer any questions you may have before you decide whether to join the practice.

Our aim is simple: to provide dental care in an environment where you feel listened to, informed and comfortable.

Composite Bonding vs Veneers Gourock

Composite Bonding vs Veneers in Gourock: Which Is Right for You?

Composite Bonding vs Veneers Gourock: Which Is Right for You?

Composite bonding and veneers are two of the most requested cosmetic treatments at Dentistry on the Clyde, and both can fix chips, close gaps and transform the colour and shape of your smile. If you are comparing the two, the right choice usually comes down to how much change you want, how much of your natural tooth you want altered, and how long you want the result to last.

This guide breaks down how each treatment works, where they differ, and how to work out which one suits your smile before your consultation.

What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding uses tooth coloured resin applied directly to your natural tooth, then sculpted, hardened and polished to a natural finish. There is no drilling and usually no injections involved, which makes it one of the least invasive treatments in cosmetic dentistry. Most cases are completed in a single visit.

With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, composite bonding typically lasts between 3 and 7 years, often longer with proper care. It suits anyone with chipped, uneven or discoloured teeth who wants a simple, effective fix without altering their natural tooth structure.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom made shells fitted over the front of your teeth, and Dentistry on the Clyde offers both porcelain and composite options. Porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years or more with good oral hygiene and resist staining well, while composite veneers usually last 5 to 7 years but can often be completed in a single visit rather than the two appointments typically required for porcelain veneers.

Veneers can be a safe treatment when properly planned and placed by a qualified dentist. Porcelain veneers usually need only a small amount of enamel removed for a secure, natural looking fit, while composite veneers may require little to no enamel removal at all.

Composite bonding vs veneers Gourock: the key differences

  • Tooth alteration: bonding adds resin with little to no preparation, porcelain veneers need a small amount of enamel removed
  • Visits: bonding and composite veneers are often completed in one visit, porcelain veneers typically need two appointments because they are laboratory made
  • Coverage: bonding suits one or two teeth with a specific issue, veneers suit a fuller transformation across several teeth
  • Longevity: bonding lasts 3 to 7 years and often longer, composite veneers 5 to 7 years, porcelain veneers 10 to 15 years or more
  • Cost: bonding is more conservative and more affordable, porcelain veneers are the larger investment, reflecting their durability

Which is right for you?

As the team at Dentistry on the Clyde put it, composite bonding is more conservative, more affordable and can be completed in a single visit, while porcelain veneers are more durable, more stain resistant and more transformative for patients with multiple concerns. A single chip or gap usually points towards bonding, while wanting to change several teeth at once with the longest lasting result usually points towards porcelain veneers.

Composite veneers sit in between, giving a fuller smile transformation than bonding alone, often in one visit, at a lower cost than porcelain. Your dentist will give you an honest recommendation based on your teeth, your goals and how long you want the result to last.

What does it cost, and how do you get started?

Cost for both treatments depends on the number of teeth treated and the complexity of your case, so you will receive a clear, personalised quote at your consultation rather than a blanket price. Dentistry on the Clyde also offers 0% interest free credit and other finance options to help spread the cost.

Getting started begins with a consultation, where your dentist will assess your teeth, discuss your goals and set out which options, including a possible combination of bonding and veneers, would work best for you. Many patients combine the two, using bonding to refine one or two teeth alongside veneers elsewhere in the smile, or pairing either treatment with teeth whitening so everything matches in shade.

Why choose Dentistry on the Clyde

Dentistry on the Clyde is based at 24 Kempock Street in Gourock, and the practice is known for taking time to explain every option clearly, whether that is composite bonding, veneers or a wider smile design plan. Ross Trayner is regularly named by patients for his composite bonding and Invisalign work, and Andrew is known for a calm, reassuring chairside manner with veneer patients.

“I have just completed my Invisalign and composite bonding treatment with Ross Trayner. I am delighted with my smile transformation, I was put at ease from the start and felt that Ross guided me each step of the way. Thanks to Ross and Marina for all of your hard work.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is composite bonding cheaper than veneers?

Generally yes. Bonding is the more conservative and more affordable option, while porcelain veneers represent the larger investment, reflecting their laboratory made finish and longer lifespan. Your exact cost depends on how many teeth are treated and is confirmed at your consultation.

How long does composite bonding last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, composite bonding typically lasts between 3 and 7 years, often longer with proper care. Lifespan depends a great deal on habits such as biting hard objects and staining foods and drinks.

Do veneers damage your teeth?

Veneers can be a safe treatment when properly planned and placed by a qualified dentist. Porcelain veneers usually need only a small amount of enamel removed for a secure, natural looking fit, while composite veneers may require little to no enamel removal at all.

Which treatment is better for a single chipped tooth?

Composite bonding is usually the simplest and most cost effective fix for one chip or crack, since it is more conservative and can repair the exact area without altering the rest of the tooth.

Is composite bonding painful?

No, the treatment is usually pain free and does not normally require any anaesthetic, since there is little to no preparation of the tooth involved.

Composite Bonding Long-Term Solution

Is Composite Bonding a Long-Term Solution? Here’s What You Need to Know

How Durable Is Composite Bonding? Everything You Should Know

If you’ve been thinking about improving your smile, you’ve probably come across composite bonding. It’s one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments available today because it can make a noticeable difference to your smile without extensive treatment or significant changes to your natural teeth.

One question we hear regularly is whether composite bonding is a temporary fix or something patients can enjoy for the long term.

The answer is that composite bonding is designed to provide long-lasting, natural-looking results. While no cosmetic dental treatment lasts forever, patients who care for their teeth properly often enjoy their composite bonding for many years before any maintenance is required.

At Dentistry on the Clyde, we help patients throughout Gourock achieve confident, natural smiles with carefully planned composite bonding that complements their facial features and preserves healthy tooth structure.

Why Is Composite Bonding So Popular?

Composite bonding offers an excellent balance between aesthetics and conservation. Rather than removing large amounts of healthy enamel, your dentist carefully adds tooth-coloured composite resin to improve the appearance of your smile.

It can be used to:

  • Repair chipped teeth
  • Improve uneven tooth shapes
  • Close small spaces between teeth
  • Restore worn edges
  • Improve minor discolouration
  • Create a more balanced smile

Many patients choose composite bonding because treatment can often be completed quickly while producing immediate, natural-looking results.

Is Composite Bonding Designed to Last?

Yes.Composite bonding is intended to be a durable cosmetic treatment that stands up to normal day-to-day use. Although the material naturally experiences wear over time, patients who follow good oral hygiene routines and attend regular dental appointments often enjoy their results for many years.

Your dentist will also monitor your bonding during routine examinations, allowing any small areas of wear to be addressed before they become larger issues.

What Makes Composite Bonding Last Longer?

Several everyday habits can help protect your investment.

Good oral care includes:

  • Brushing your teeth twice every day.
  • Cleaning between your teeth daily.
  • Visiting your dentist and hygienist regularly.
  • Avoiding biting hard objects such as ice or pens.
  • Wearing a custom mouthguard for contact sports if needed.
  • Asking your dentist about a night guard if you clench or grind your teeth.

These simple habits not only protect your composite bonding but also contribute to healthier teeth and gums.

Can Composite Bonding Lose Its Shine?

Like natural teeth, composite bonding changes gradually over time.

Foods and drinks such as coffee, tea and red wine may slowly affect its appearance, while smoking can also contribute to staining.

Fortunately, regular professional cleaning and polishing appointments help maintain the appearance of both your natural teeth and your bonding.

What Happens If My Composite Bonding Chips?

Small chips don’t necessarily mean the entire treatment needs replacing.

One advantage of composite bonding is that it can often be repaired by adding fresh composite resin to the affected area. Because the material bonds directly to the existing restoration, repairs can usually be completed without replacing everything.

This flexibility is one of the reasons composite bonding remains such a popular cosmetic treatment.

Is Composite Bonding Right for Everyone?

Composite bonding is suitable for many patients, but the right treatment depends on your smile, your bite and the results you’re hoping to achieve.

During your consultation, your dentist will assess your teeth, discuss your goals and explain whether composite bonding is the most appropriate option or whether another cosmetic treatment may better suit your needs.

A personalised treatment plan helps ensure your results are both attractive and long-lasting.

Why Choose Dentistry on the Clyde?

At Dentistry on the Clyde, we understand that no two smiles are the same.

Our team takes the time to understand what you’d like to improve before recommending the most suitable treatment. Every composite bonding procedure is carefully planned to achieve natural-looking results that complement your smile while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

We’re committed to helping patients across Gourock enjoy confident smiles that look great and support long-term oral health.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is composite bonding suitable for front teeth?

Yes. Composite bonding is commonly used on front teeth because it can be carefully shaped and colour-matched to create a natural-looking finish.

How do I care for composite bonding?

Looking after composite bonding is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Brush twice a day, clean between your teeth daily, attend regular dental check-ups and avoid using your teeth to bite hard objects.

Will composite bonding look natural?

When carried out by an experienced cosmetic dentist, composite bonding is designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. The resin is colour-matched and carefully shaped to create a smile that looks both natural and balanced.

Dental Implants in Gourock: What the Process Involves and Why Dentistry on the Clyde Is the Right Place to Start

Dental Implants in Gourock: What the Process Involves and Why Dentistry on the Clyde Is the Right Place to Start

Dental implants are the most permanent and natural-feeling solution available for replacing a missing tooth, and for patients who are suitable they are almost always the first recommendation. But the process is more involved than most people expect, and the quality of the result depends enormously on the skill and experience of the team delivering it.

Dentistry on the Clyde is based on Kempock Street in Gourock and has earned a reputation as one of the most trusted dental practices in Inverclyde. With a 5.0 rating across 616 Google reviews and award recognition in 2025 for Best Practice, Team of the Year, Treatment of Nervous Patients, and Patient Care, the standard of care here is reflected consistently in what patients say about their experience.

Why Choose Dentistry on the Clyde for Dental Implants in Gourock?

Choosing the right provider for implant treatment is one of the most significant dental decisions you will make. Experience, technology, and the quality of care throughout the process all affect the outcome.

Implant treatment at Dentistry on the Clyde is led by Dr Morven McCauley, who specialises in implantology and has built a remarkable track record with both single tooth and complex full arch cases. The practice uses laser-assisted implant techniques and backs every implant with a lifetime warranty. Pain-free treatment is a written guarantee: if you feel pain during any private procedure, your treatment visit is free.

Patient reviews of Morven and the implant team are consistently detailed and specific. One patient who completed a full upper arch fitted onto six implants wrote: “I instinctively felt a very reassuring confidence from Morven. I was very sure I was in the presence of dentistry excellence. Certainly I was not mistaken. All my treatment was completely pain free and I looked forward to each visit.” Another, who completed two implants, wrote: “Every visit Morven would explain what was happening and was always reassuring and calming. The treatment was totally pain free and I am so happy with the end result.”

A third patient who had suffered years of dental anxiety described the experience simply: “Morven has cured my lifelong phobia of going to the dentist with patience, care and understanding.”

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed surgically into the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Over several months, the bone grows around and fuses with the post in a process called osseointegration. Once that bond is confirmed, a custom-made crown is attached on top.

The result is a replacement tooth anchored directly into the jaw. It does not move, does not rely on neighbouring teeth for support, and requires no special maintenance beyond normal brushing and flossing. Most patients describe the finished result as completely indistinguishable from their natural teeth.

Why Implants Are the Gold Standard for Missing Teeth

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone at that site begins to lose density. A natural root transmits biting forces into the bone every time you eat, and without that stimulation the bone slowly resorbs. Over time this affects the shape of the jaw, the stability of neighbouring teeth, and in cases of multiple missing teeth, the appearance of the face.

Dentures and bridges replace the visible tooth but do nothing to prevent this bone loss. An implant is the only tooth replacement that replicates the function of a root, stimulating the bone and maintaining the structure that would otherwise be lost.

Beyond bone preservation, implants offer a level of stability and natural function that other restorations cannot match. With proper care, they are designed to last a lifetime.

Who Is Suitable for Dental Implants in Gourock?

Most healthy adults who are missing one or more teeth are potentially suitable for implants. The key requirements are sufficient bone volume at the implant site, healthy gums, and good general health to support healing after a minor surgical procedure.

Patients who have had a missing tooth for some time may have experienced bone loss at the site. In many cases this can be addressed with bone grafting before or at the time of implant placement.

Active gum disease needs to be treated and stable before an implant is placed. Uncontrolled gum disease around an implant is one of the main causes of failure, so this is always addressed first.

Smoking increases implant failure rates and your dentist will discuss this honestly with you at your consultation. Medical conditions that affect healing require individual assessment.

The only reliable way to know whether implants are right for your situation is a thorough clinical assessment. That process begins with a complimentary consultation with a Smile Advisor at Dentistry on the Clyde, who will talk you through your options with no commitment and no pressure.

The Dental Implant Process at Dentistry on the Clyde

Your Complimentary Consultation

Your first step is a complimentary consultation with a Smile Advisor at Dentistry on the Clyde. This is a conversation, not a clinical appointment. It covers your concerns, your goals, and the options available, with full cost information provided before any clinical assessment takes place. Patients consistently describe the consultation experience as unhurried, informative, and completely free of pressure.

Clinical Assessment and Planning

Morven McCauley will carry out a full examination including digital X-rays and 3D imaging to assess bone volume and anatomy at the implant site. A detailed treatment plan is built from this assessment covering every stage, the full timeline, and a complete written breakdown of costs before anything moves forward.

Any Preparatory Treatment

If the tooth is still present it is extracted first. If bone grafting is needed it takes place at this stage and is given time to heal before implant placement. Not every patient requires preparatory work, but when it is needed it is the foundation for a lasting result.

Laser-Assisted Implant Placement

Dentistry on the Clyde uses laser-assisted implant techniques for a more precise and minimally invasive placement. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic using the practice’s five-step pain-free protocol: numbing gel applied first, warmed anaesthetic, the shortest and finest needles, a slow injection rate, and a computer-assisted delivery system. Dental nurse Yvonne supports Morven McCauley through the procedure and patients are checked in with throughout.

Healing and Osseointegration

The implant is left to fuse with the bone over three to six months. Check-up appointments monitor progress during this period but there is no active treatment. A temporary restoration keeps the gap closed while healing takes place.

Your Crown

Once osseointegration is confirmed, a digital scan or impressions are taken to fabricate your custom crown. The crown is matched to the colour, shape, and size of your surrounding teeth. When it is fitted, the implant is complete and fully functional.

Laser-Assisted Implants With a Lifetime Warranty

Dentistry on the Clyde offers laser-assisted dental implants backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the practice’s confidence in both the techniques used and the outcomes achieved. One patient who completed a full upper implant arch described the result simply: “I am absolutely delighted with my new implants and only wish I had visited the practice sooner. Without doubt I would highly recommend Dentistry on the Clyde.”

Full Mouth Dental Implants in Gourock

For patients who are missing multiple teeth or who require a full arch restoration, Dentistry on the Clyde offers comprehensive full mouth implant solutions including implant-supported dentures and same-day teeth on implants.

Morven McCauley has extensive experience with full arch cases and the reviews from patients who have completed this treatment are among the most detailed on the site. A full assessment and treatment plan will give you a clear picture of what is involved and what the cost looks like before any decisions are made.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

With proper care, the implant post is designed to last a lifetime. The crown may need replacing after 15 to 20 years depending on wear, but the implant itself rarely requires intervention once it has successfully integrated.

Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups are the main requirements for long-term success. The team at Dentistry on the Clyde supports patients in maintaining the health of both their implants and their natural teeth at every routine appointment.

Dental Implant Costs and Finance Options in Gourock

The cost of a dental implant depends on how many are being placed, whether preparatory work is needed, and the type of crown used. A complete written breakdown of costs is provided before any commitment is made. This is one of the practice’s five written promises to every patient.

Interest-free finance options are available to help spread the investment, and these are discussed at your complimentary consultation so you have a clear picture of your monthly commitment before agreeing to anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who carries out dental implants at Dentistry on the Clyde in Gourock?

Implant treatment is led by Morven McCauley, who specialises in implantology at Dentistry on the Clyde. Morven McCauley has an extensive track record in both single tooth and complex full arch implant cases and is recognised through multiple practice awards including Treatment of Nervous Patients and Patient Care. Dental nurse Yvonne supports the implant team throughout treatment.

Are dental implants painful in Gourock?

Dentistry on the Clyde guarantees pain-free treatment backed by a money-back promise. Implant placement is carried out using a five-step pain-free protocol and laser-assisted techniques. Post-procedure discomfort is typically mild. As one patient put it: “Morven has cured my lifelong phobia of going to the dentist with patience, care and understanding. You do not feel a thing.”

How long does the dental implant process take in Gourock?

From consultation to fitted crown, most single-tooth cases take between six and twelve months. The majority of that time is the osseointegration phase rather than active appointments. Complex full arch cases take longer, and we will give you a realistic timeline at your consultation based on your specific situation.

Can I get dental implants if I have had a missing tooth for several years?

In most cases yes, though bone loss at the site may mean grafting is needed before placement. Your dentist will assess bone volume with imaging at your consultation and advise clearly on what is involved. Acting sooner is always simpler, but patients who have had a gap for years are frequently still suitable for treatment.

Does Dentistry on the Clyde offer finance for dental implants?

Yes. Interest-free and other finance options are available to help spread the cost of implant treatment. Finance is discussed at your complimentary consultation so you know your full monthly commitment before agreeing to anything.

Are dental implants available on the NHS in Gourock?

NHS provision for dental implants is very limited and typically restricted to specific clinical criteria. In most cases implants are provided privately. Dentistry on the Clyde offers interest-free finance options to help make the investment manageable.

What happens if I do not replace a missing tooth?

Leaving a gap leads to gradual bone loss at the site, drifting of neighbouring teeth, and changes to your bite over time. These effects compound and make future treatment more complex. Replacing a missing tooth promptly is considerably simpler and more cost-effective than addressing the secondary problems that develop if the gap is left untreated.

Smile Makeover in Gourock: What to Expect and How It Works

Smile Makeover in Gourock: What to Expect and How It Works

Smile design Gourock at Dentistry on the Clyde is built around what each individual patient wants to change. The treatments included in your makeover depend on your specific concerns, your dental health and what will most effectively achieve the result you are looking for. This guide walks you through what a smile makeover actually involves, which treatments are most commonly included and what you can realistically expect from the process.

The Design Stage: Seeing Your Result Before Treatment Begins

Every great smile makeover starts with great planning. At Dentistry on the Clyde, we use digital smile design tools to create a visualisation of your potential result at the consultation stage. You see where the plan is heading before any clinical work begins, and we refine the design until it genuinely reflects your goals.

Thorough planning produces more predictable results and eliminates the kind of mid-treatment surprises that occur when work begins without a clear aesthetic direction. Our consultations take the time this planning requires, because a smile makeover built on a clear, agreed vision delivers a far more reliably satisfying outcome than one that jumps straight into treatment.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Professional whitening is the most accessible cosmetic improvement available and one of the most effective for patients whose primary concern is the colour of their teeth. Using prescription-strength whitening gel in custom-fitted trays, it produces results that are far more even and dramatic than anything available without a dental prescription.

In a smile makeover context, whitening is typically the first treatment. Brightening the natural teeth first establishes the new colour baseline. Any veneers, bonding or other restorations placed afterwards are shade-matched to this brighter tone, ensuring a consistent colour across the whole smile. For some patients, whitening alone is all that is needed to achieve the improvement they were looking for.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is one of the most versatile and immediately effective treatments in cosmetic dentistry. Tooth-coloured resin is applied directly to the tooth, shaped and sculpted to the desired form and then hardened with a curing light. In a single appointment it can repair chips and cracks, fill gaps between teeth, improve the shape and proportion of individual teeth and adjust the overall balance of the smile.

Bonding is highly conservative because little or no natural tooth structure is removed during the process. For patients who want a meaningful improvement without the commitment or investment of porcelain veneers, or who want to preview the direction of the look before investing in something more permanent, composite bonding is often the ideal starting point. Results last five to seven years before needing refreshing.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are the most powerful tool in smile design for patients who want a comprehensive, lasting transformation of their front teeth. Ultra-thin ceramic shells fabricated in a dental laboratory are bonded permanently to the front surface of the treated teeth, changing their colour, shape, size and surface texture simultaneously.

The ceramic used in porcelain veneers reflects light in a way that closely mimics natural enamel. When well-designed and well-made, they are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. They are highly stain-resistant and with good oral hygiene and regular dental care last 15 years or more, making them the strongest long-term investment in a comprehensive smile makeover.

Gum Contouring

The gumline frames the smile and its appearance matters as much as the teeth themselves. An uneven gumline, or one that sits too low and partially covers the tooth surface, can make an otherwise healthy and well-treated smile look unbalanced. No amount of work on the teeth alone will fully correct a poorly proportioned gum frame.

Laser gum contouring uses a precision laser to remove excess or uneven gum tissue with minimal discomfort and a straightforward recovery. The result is a more symmetrical, balanced gumline that allows the teeth to take their proper place in the smile and the finished result to look genuinely harmonious.

Orthodontic Treatment Before Cosmetic Finishing

Where mild crowding or spacing is contributing to cosmetic concerns, a short course of clear aligner treatment may be recommended before cosmetic finishing treatments are placed. Correcting alignment orthodontically first produces a more natural result and reduces the number of teeth that need cosmetic treatment.

This approach is both more clinically appropriate and more conservative than using veneers or bonding to compensate for alignment issues that could be addressed more straightforwardly with orthodontics. It also means less material is needed on each tooth, which preserves more of the natural tooth structure.

What Realistically Changes After a Smile Makeover in Gourock?

Patients who complete a smile makeover at Dentistry on the Clyde consistently report teeth that are whiter and more consistent in colour, a more balanced and proportionate smile, the elimination of chips, gaps and worn surfaces, and a finished result that looks natural and genuinely suits their face.

Beyond the clinical changes, patients also describe greater confidence in smiling, less self-consciousness in social and professional situations and a feeling that their smile now reflects how they feel on the inside. These outcomes are reported across every level of makeover complexity, from simple whitening through to comprehensive veneer cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need all of these treatments as part of my smile makeover in Gourock?

Very unlikely. Your makeover plan will include only the treatments relevant to your specific concerns. Some patients benefit enormously from whitening alone. Others need a more comprehensive combination. The consultation is where we determine exactly what is right for your smile and your goals, based on your actual teeth rather than a standard package.

How long does smile design take from consultation to completion in Gourock?

A whitening and composite bonding plan typically takes two to three appointments over a few weeks. A plan including porcelain veneers takes four to six appointments over four to eight weeks to allow for laboratory fabrication. Your dentist will give you a specific timeline at your consultation based on the treatments involved in your individual plan.

Is composite bonding or porcelain veneers a better choice for smile design Gourock?

It depends entirely on your specific situation. Composite bonding is more conservative, more affordable and can be completed in a single visit. Porcelain veneers are more durable, more stain-resistant and more transformative for patients with multiple concerns. Your dentist will give you an honest recommendation based on your teeth, your goals and how long you want the result to last.

I am a new patient here and have to say I am so pleased I made the leap. I was welcomed by Rebecca the Treatment Coordinator who listened patiently to my concerns and we discussed the best dentist and hygienist to suit my unique needs. She was extremely helpful and made me feel very much at ease. I had a hygiene appointment first and then attended the dentist to follow a few weeks later. Jennifer and Andrew were both very professional, attentive, thorough and gentle. The work was to a very high standard and one of the best pain free experiences I have ever had in the chair! Thank you Dentistry on the Clyde.

I’m terrified of the dentist, so I honestly didn’t expect to feel as at ease as I did. The whole team made me feel comfortable, and I experienced absolutely no pain at all — I was genuinely shocked!Even the next day, I had no pain, which has really helped ease my fear of the dentist. I may actually be a little less scared now! 😂The whole team are excellent — friendly, reassuring and honest. I honestly can’t thank them enough for making what is usually such a stressful experience so much easier. 🥰🦷

Stuart WilsonDentistry on the Clyde – Review 20.2.24Now in my 70th year and with my top teeth failing I feared I was heading for the dreaded full denture. Thankfully I was very fortunate to be referred to Dentistry on the Clyde. There I met with my wonderful Smile Advisor, Chloe who explored my options with me.Subsequently I met with Dr Morven McCauley who specialises in implantology. Instinctively I felt a very reassuring confidence from Morven, I was very sure I was now in the presence of dentistry excellence. Certainly I was not mistaken and thanks to Morven and her team I now have a wonderful new ceramic upper arch fitted onto six implants. All the staff I met at the practice were brilliant, Smile advisor, Chloe, Dental Nurse, Yvonne, Hygienist, Thurga and all the reception staff.Of course, leading this great team is the very wonderful Dr Morven McCauley, whom in my humble opinion is simply the very best dentist I have ever met, I truly believe she is a real ‘Superstar’ in the world of dentistry. All my treatment was completely pain free and I looked forward to each visit. If you are looking for a top dental practice, please look no further. Without reservation I would highly recommend Dentistry on The Clyde.

I recently completed treatment with Ross, including Invisalign, composite veneers, and teeth whitening, and I am delighted with the results. From the start, the team were friendly, professional, and took the time to understand exactly what I wanted to achieve. Ross delivered everything I hoped for, and the treatment was completed at a pace that suited me, with flexible payment options available throughout. The transformation has made a huge difference to my confidence. I used to avoid showing my teeth when I smiled, but now I can smile with complete confidence.A huge thank you to Ross and the entire team at Dentistry on the Clyde for making the experience so positive. For anyone considering treatment, I highly recommend reaching out and seeing what treatments are available for you!

I was really nervous to visit as it had been such a long time since I last saw a dentist, but Andy was fantastic. It was the most comfortable I have ever felt at the dentist. He was very thorough during my initial check-up appointment and came up with a fantastic treatment plan after really listening to what I wanted. His nurse Molly was also great and really helped to ease my nerves throughout the appointment. Had an amazing experience with nail at dentistry on the Clyde. I came in with teeth that to say the least I was ashamed of showing to anyone. Sat down with nail and came up with a plan to fix that. Only after a few sessions he gave me a smile that I was amazed to look at in the mirror and could show people. He literally gave me my smile back and gave me so much confidence which before gave me a lot of insecurity. Then we finished the remaining sessions and now I am over the moon with the work done.. can’t recommend nial enough every treatment was pain free he was very informative of the work he was carrying out he kept me updated with everything which was very reassuring

Having avoided hygienist appointments for a few years due to painful experiences with my sensitive teeth, I decided to go to Dentistry on the Clyde because of their 'Pain Free' promise. I was still anxious but need never have worried. Jennifer and her assistant were kind and put me at ease. Numbing gel was used and the process was explained clearly. I can honestly say that the appointment was Pain Free and would recommend them unreservedly.

10/10 experience with Nial! I will continue to shout about it from the rooftops.I used to be quite scared of the dentist but Nial put me completely at ease, discussed options, described treatments and answered any questions I had along the way. Nial would also let me put headphones on to listen to music to help drown out the sound of drilling etc which is what the majority of my fear was from… and he never once judged me for my eclectic music requests! 😝I had to have a lot of work done before we moved on to my ‘ABC’ (alignment, bleach and composite bonding) treatment and every step of the way was pain free. I am so beyond thrilled with the results and I would recommend him to everyone. A big shout out to Christina too who was with me through the majority of my treatment assisting Nial.Buzzing with my new smile! 🫶🏻🥰✨

The mouth guard I got from my dentist has been genuinely life changing - after dealing with jaw pain for as long as I can remember due to anxiety, the mouthguard has stopped the pain completely! The practice has really lovely and friendly staff that make you feel at ease, and are very happy to answer questions and explain things in depth. Best dentist I've been to.

I first visited Dentistry on the Clyde in March 2025,I had already spoke to 2 other Dentists elsewhere but never felt comfortable with what they were proposing. From my initial consultation with Rebecca who explained the full process I would need to take and the costs as well as their pain free promise ,I was sure I had picked the right place.I was always a bit nervous when going to the dentist in the past but these guys make the visits painless, from the reception staff to Jennifer the hygieneist and to Morven and Yvonne who done my Implants and all associated treatments over several months it really was painless from start to finish.I cannot thank the team enough..10/10!!John

I have been with Dentistry on the Clyde for just over a year. Morven has cured my lifelong phobia of going to the dentist with patience, care and understanding. They say they offer pain free dentistry. At first I did not believe it at all due to many terrible experiences with another dentist practice. But take it from someone who has avoided the dentist for years, you do not feel a thing! If only all dentists used the same way of injecting anaesthetic, no one would be afraid of the dentist again! Thank you Morven for helping me to finally get over my fears. You are one in a million !

I attended the practice with a problem I was fairly adament was a wisdom tooth issue. After speaking to Ross, he quickly understood the issue to be linked to outside factors, such as stress. He outlined the options I had and provided some exercises to carry out to relax my facial muscle to provide initial relief. Within two weeks, all pain was gone. It was an excellent consultation that shows the wider knowledge and expertise the practice brings outside usual dentistry procedures

I have just completed my Invisalign and composite bonding treatment with Dr Ross Trayner at Dentistry on The Clyde.I am delighted with my smile transformation, I was put at ease from the start and felt that Ross guided me each step of the way. He was very kind and took the time to explain everything to me. The finished result still feels very natural but corrected all of the issues I had wanted to fix! Thanks to Ross and Marina for all of your hard work, after years of being conscious of my teeth - I am really happy and my new smile has given me so much confidence! Thanks,Fraser

Suffering many years of dental problems I made an appointment at Dentistry on the Clyde. After an initial consultation I was given three options. These were fully explained to me and included the various costs. There was absolutely no pressure to pick a particular option. I opted for a full upper implant arch. My dentist was Dr Morven McAuley who specialises in implant surgery. The whole process was undertaken very professionally. Morven and her entire team and colleagues were fantastic both in their professional disciplines and general engagement. I’m absolutely delighted with my new implants and only wish I had visited the Practice sooner. Without doubt I highly recommend Dentistry on the Clyde
